Trump Rejects Iran's Negotiation Bid
U.S. President Donald Trump announced Saturday his rejection of an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume negotiations with the United States. Trump affirmed in press statements his refusal of any agreement allowing Iran to immediately reopen trade, noting its current severe losses. He clarified that Iran wants a deal, and he also favors making deals, but deemed the Iranian proposal unacceptable, asserting the U.S. "is achieving a great victory and fully controls the Strait of Hormuz." The President pointed to massive oil quantities passing through the Strait of Hormuz, stating 29 vessels traversed it last night. He explained Iran faces severe economic losses from lack of funds, with its primary income source being the Strait. He emphasized Iran "put itself in a bind" by closing Hormuz, affirming Washington imposed "the biggest blockade in military history and a wall of steel" around it, significantly diminishing Iran's financial resources due to this closure.
