Trump Continues to Stir Debate Over Potential Third Presidential Term

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again stirred debate regarding his potential pursuit of a third presidential term, remarking jokingly at a White House correspondents' reception that he does not rule it out. Trump told attendees, "As with my presidency, the second time is always better. It's always better. And the third time will be much better." He quickly added to clarify his stance: "I'm just joking." This statement comes amid previous hints from Trump, who had earlier affirmed his intention to run for president in the 2028 elections, wearing a red hat emblazoned with "Trump 2028," which elicited laughter from the audience before he again clarified he was not serious. It is worth noting that U.S. law limits the president to two terms. The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, ratified in 1951, stipulates that Trump's potential second term would conclude in January 2029 should he return to the presidency. Nevertheless, the former president has repeatedly alluded to the possibility of running for a third term, a prospect also addressed by Steve Bannon, a prominent former political strategist, last fall.
