Saudi Aramco Closes Jazan Refinery Following Weekend Attack on Its Oil Facilities

Saudi Aramco closed its Jazan oil refinery on July 27, 2026, following an attack that occurred last Saturday. The assault caused damage to the integrated gasification combined cycle complex and the oil storage area. The company is currently undertaking repair work, with an initial restart of the refinery expected by August 15, 2026. The Jazan refinery, which commenced operations in 2021 with a production capacity of up to 400,000 barrels per day, stands as one of Saudi Arabia's newest and largest refining projects. The refinery is situated in the southwest of the Kingdom, on the Red Sea coast near the Yemeni border. Ansar Allah (Houthis) had claimed responsibility on July 25, 2026, for a wide-ranging attack involving drones, ballistic, and cruise missiles. This attack targeted the refinery along with other Aramco facilities in Yanbu port on the Kingdom's western coast.
