Qatari Emir stresses Gulf sovereignty is red line and stability firm commitment

Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani stressed that safeguarding the sovereignty of Gulf Cooperation Council countries and protecting their security represent a red line that cannot be compromised, affirming Doha's full commitment to cooperating with regional and international partners to ensure regional stability. Al Thani explained that Qatar and its region have navigated exceptional circumstances that demonstrated the strength of state institutions, pointing out that the national economy showed remarkable resilience against the current crisis and maintained positive growth rates during the current year 2025. He noted that the suspension of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the damage sustained by the Ras Laffan facility resulted in the disruption of a vital part of exports, indicating that proactive measures taken by the state helped contain the repercussions thus far. He affirmed that the experience will render Doha more resilient and capable of coping with international variables, recalling that his country supplies about twenty percent of the global liquefied natural gas trade, and any impact on its exports directly reflects on markets and consumers. He highlighted Doha's role in mediation efforts aimed at a ceasefire and ensuring the flow of navigation in waterways, while simultaneously revealing that Qatari territory was subjected to an Iranian attack which he considered a blatant violation of sovereignty. He emphasized his country's firm approach of prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy to resolve disputes, while adhering to defending sovereignty and fulfilling its assigned role in global energy security. Regarding the Palestinian issue, Al Thani denounced the ongoing Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people, considering what the Gaza Strip has witnessed to amount to genocide, and stressing the necessity of holding those responsible accountable and ensuring they do not escape punishment.
