Parliament to Discuss Strict Traffic Amendments Today

Khalid Sido, a member of the parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, revealed the most prominent amendments agreed upon regarding the new traffic law, which the Council of Representatives is scheduled to discuss during its session today, Sunday. Sido explained that the main amendments include setting a 30% limit for vehicle window tinting, in addition to regulating traffic fines in a manner that prevents any exemptions or favoritism in applying violations. He indicated that the law would also organize the work of traffic police and deal with violations according to their severity, especially those causing traffic accidents. Sido added that the new law would incorporate clauses that benefit from technological advancements, such as using cameras and radars for monitoring and recording traffic violations. He affirmed that this step comes in light of the large number of car accidents, whose primary causes are attributed to traffic violations. Sido clarified that the law would be strict towards violators, with fines imposed on those who run traffic lights. He mentioned that the committee held extensive discussions on the law due to its utmost importance and direct impact on traffic flow and public safety. Sido also touched upon another aspect related to regulating the work of the Traffic Directorate, emphasizing the necessity for traffic officers to benefit from this law. He pointed out that there are approximately 29,000 traffic personnel, with 15,000 working in the field, while the rest are distributed among administrative departments. Concluding his statement, Sido drew attention to the need to address some internal organizational issues within the traffic apparatus, explaining that the law would include a mechanism to allocate a portion of fees to support the directorate's work and develop its performance, addressing problems faced by personnel when transferring from local units to traffic.
