Parliament Approves Proposal to Exempt Solar Energy Systems from Duties and Taxes

The House of Representatives has approved a draft law to exempt solar energy systems and their components from customs duties and taxes. This referral to specialized parliamentary committees paves the way for legislative completion. MP Mohammed Hadi Al-Shammari clarified that the proposal, now with the committees, grants full exemption for all solar system components—panels, batteries, inverters, accessories—from customs and taxes. He stressed this will significantly cut prices and boost public adoption. Al-Shammari added that the proposal mandates the Central Bank, in coordination with public and private banks, to launch an easy financing initiative. This will provide citizens with subsidized or zero-interest loans for solar system installation, including flexible installment plans, to ease financial burdens on families. He noted the initiative offers dual benefits for citizens and the state: reducing reliance on private generators and alleviating national grid pressure. It will also lower fuel and gas import costs and power plant operations, supporting the transition to renewable energy. The proposal has been referred to the relevant parliamentary committees for discussion and report preparation, before its presentation to the House for a vote according to established legislative procedures.
