OPEC Plus Alliance Makes Strategic Decisions Regarding Crude Supplies and Future Assessments

Economy The OPEC+ alliance has preliminarily agreed to maintain current crude oil output targets without modifications during a meeting held today, Sunday. The gathering brought together the seven major producers within the coalition, namely: Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, Kazakhstan, and the Sultanate of Oman. This move comes as Gulf nations seek to boost their petroleum exports following months of geopolitical and military disruptions, while most producers continue to pump volumes significantly below their designated production quotas. Production Levels Trajectory The coalition—comprising the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies led by Moscow—had gradually raised its production targets for most of the year before moving to stabilize them in October, after completing in September the phase-out of previous voluntary cuts amounting to about 1.65 million barrels per day agreed upon in 2023. As of the time of reporting, no official comment has been issued by OPEC or Russian authorities in response to requests for comment. Postponement of 2027 Production Capacity Assessments In a related development, two informed sources revealed that the technical review conducted by the alliance to determine baselines and production quotas for member states for 2027 has been postponed. This is due to the repercussions of conflict and military operations in the region, which have disrupted development projects and efforts to raise production capacity in several parts of the Middle East, thereby increasing the difficulty and complexity of accurately assessing the future production capacities of member countries.
