Oil Prices Rise Amid Escalating US-Iranian Confrontation in Region

Oil prices experienced a significant surge on Monday, propelled by the escalating military confrontation between the United States and Iran in the Middle East region. This escalation has sparked fears of potential restrictions on crucial oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, directly impacting global markets. Brent crude futures surpassed the ninety-dollar mark per barrel, reaching their highest levels since June 11. The crude had previously concluded the last week with substantial gains, the largest recorded since April. In a related development, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude prices also climbed, reaching levels not seen since June 12, after registering notable gains last week, which were the largest since early March. This surge comes amidst the intensification of the regional conflict over the weekend, with the United States carrying out its ninth consecutive night of air strikes against Iranian targets, while both Kuwait and Bahrain reported additional Iranian attacks, further exacerbating geopolitical tensions in the region.
