Oil Ministry sets new timeline to end gas flaring in fields

The Ministry of Oil announced on Friday that the expected timeline to achieve zero gas flaring across various Iraqi fields will be by the end of 2029, clarifying that the previous deadline of late 2027 exclusively concerns the utilization of total flared gas quantities within the North Oil Company. Ministry spokesman Asim Al-Rekabi stated in an official release that this clarification comes in response to reports circulated by news agencies and satellite channels regarding ministerial statements concerning the cessation of gas flaring by the end of 2027. Al-Rekabi explained that what was published on the ministry's official social media platforms, citing the Deputy Minister for Gas Affairs, specifically pertained to investing all flared gas volumes within the North Oil Company rather than all ministry-affiliated companies. He pointed out that reaching the target of zero gas flaring across all Iraqi fields is anticipated by the end of 2029, through a series of projects currently under implementation.
