Libya Announces Resumption of Crude Oil Pumping via Sharara-Zawiya Pipeline

Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced on Saturday the reopening of valve number 7 on the Sharara-Zawiya pipeline. The corporation confirmed the resumption of pumping operations, with crude flows gradually returning to their normal levels, following the closure of the line days earlier. The crisis began with the closure of valve number 7 on the Sharara crude oil transfer line, which led to increased pressure within the pipeline and a significant drop in production from the field, one of Libya's largest oil fields. This closure resulted in a loss of approximately 130,000 barrels per day from production. The NOC warned that a continued halt of crude flow could lead to further operational and production losses. The corporation detailed that the daily production loss from the field amounted to 129,085 barrels on Monday, September 21, before rising to 259,349 barrels on Tuesday, then 235,983 barrels on Wednesday, and recording 237,937 barrels on Thursday, September 24. According to NOC data, the total cumulative loss during four days of closure reached 720,362 barrels of crude oil, with direct financial losses incurred by the corporation exceeding $75 million by September 24.
