Lawsuit Challenges Designation of Deputy Premiers and Creation of Ministries

Lawmaker Mohammed Jassim Al-Khafaji filed a legal challenge before the Federal Supreme Court on Sunday, contesting the parliamentary vote that designated three deputy prime ministers and established three new ministerial portfolios. Al-Khafaji stated in a post that the lawsuit was registered under number 253 of 2026, citing several constitutional infringements. He explained that the legal complaint relies on Article 139 regarding transitional provisions, Article 76 covering cabinet formation mechanisms, Article 61 defining parliamentary oversight roles, and Article 86 governing the creation of ministries without prior legislation. Additionally, the petition demands reversing a judicial ruling issued 15 years ago regarding the identical subject, asserting that creating these offices and ministries poses evident constitutional problems.
