Large-scale oil spill off Oman coast after vessel sustains damage

Omani authorities are actively addressing a significant oil slick spanning approximately 390 square kilometers off their coasts. This incident follows damage sustained by a sanctioned vessel, carrying Russian crude oil. Maritime security sources indicated that the crew of the Caroline B ship initially reported the issue on June 8, near Mukalla port in southern Yemen. Preliminary assessments point to a possible explosion onboard. Oman affirmed its commitment on Monday to tackle the oil spill in its waters, particularly near the Al Halaniyat islands off the southern Dhofar Governorate.
