Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi unveiled on Saturday a comprehensive initiative aimed at establishing integrated connectivity across energy grids, railway networks, transportation routes, and digital communications among regional nations, emphasizing that the proposal seeks to foster shared stability and overcome mounting economic challenges. Delivering an address at the opening of the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Baghdad, Al-Zaidi explained that the initiative also encompasses the advancement of digital payment systems and electronic commerce platforms, alongside boosting synergy between industrial zones. He further called for safeguarding commercial navigation, defending international corridors, and facilitating smooth regional logistics and trade transit. The Prime Minister greeted attending delegations in Baghdad, describing the capital as an enduring beacon of history, knowledge, and civilization that warmly welcomes representatives from across the Islamic world. He also congratulated the OIC Secretary-General on officially assuming his responsibilities, expressing hope for his success in managing the organization and advancing development initiatives serving the Islamic community. Al-Zaidi pointed out that member states are encountering escalating regional and international pressures that test their ability to preserve peaceful coexistence while keeping pace with economic, cultural, and informational shifts. He stressed that existing crises require deeper multilateral cooperation to safeguard the vital interests of nations and protect future generations, underscoring that the OIC remains a vital platform for solidifying unity and integration among societies bound by shared civilization. Reiterating Baghdad’s foreign policy principles, Al-Zaidi underscored that the Palestinian cause represents the central core of regional conflict, stressing that justice and fundamental rights for the Palestinian people remain essential for sustainable stability. He noted that Iraq has endured, and continues to shoulder, heavy burdens resulting from regional warfare and its severe economic repercussions. The Prime Minister reaffirmed that mutual acceptance and dialogue serve as crucial keys to resolving disputes, asserting that the OIC stands as the premier forum to champion moderation, human values, and anti-hate stances. Concluding his speech, Al-Zaidi praised the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for efforts in defusing regional tensions, urging member countries to enhance joint actions to consolidate peace and prosperity across the region.
