Iraq Among Top Importers of Turkish Grains in May
Iraq was among the top importers of Turkish grains and pulses in May. Data from the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters' Association indicated a 4% growth in sector exports year-on-year. This was driven by rising demand in Middle Eastern and African markets, with Iraq, Sudan, Libya, and Kenya notably consuming these products. The pulses sector led exports at $31.6 million, largely due to strong red lentil sales of $21.6 million. Demand for confectionery and biscuits also persisted in various markets, including Iraq, Japan, Russia, and Germany. Additionally, the sugar and sugar products sector saw a significant 26% increase, reaching $21.7 million, fueled by notable demand in European and Middle Eastern markets, as stated by the association's president. The association affirmed that growing momentum in emerging markets supports export expansion plans, while maintaining market share in target countries, especially regional ones.
