Iranian FM: US Talks Conditional on Halting Violations, Providing Compensation

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi affirmed Tehran is not currently holding direct negotiations with the United States, stating resumption depends on Washington halting violations and providing compensation. Araqchi clarified in press statements that direct talks with the American side are now suspended, with communication limited to message exchanges via mediators seeking to restart negotiations. He stressed Iran sees no possibility for dialogue resumption unless Washington ceases its memorandum of understanding violations and offers necessary reparations. Separately, Araqchi revealed ongoing negotiations with Oman to establish a new maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz, confirming experts are working on maps and discussions are in final stages. He added that modifying Strait passages is purely technical and legal, emphasizing an imminent agreement with Muscat does not necessarily mean reopening the Strait of Hormuz, as this remains subject to other conditions previously communicated via mediators.
