Intensive Security Measures Protect Netanyahu's Residence from Drone Threats in Jerusalem

In the past two days, intensive security works have been carried out on Gaza Street in Jerusalem to protect Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence from drone threats. During this period, the street was blocked by two cranes, and a team of at least ten workers installed protective netting designed to prevent drones from approaching. These measures are part of a broader security effort lasting about a year and a half, which included constructing an elevator, renovating bathrooms, installing iron structures, building a shelter, and placing fences and concrete blocks to restrict movement on the street. The Netanyahu couple does not reside in this house but in another residence within the same area. A local resident expressed concern about the impact of these fortifications on neighbors, noting the neighborhood's dense construction and population, and questioned what protections exist for other residents against such threats. About a week ago, it was revealed that the Prime Minister's office spent over 127 million shekels between 2023 and 2026 on security projects for the prime minister's residences, including the official residence on Balfour Street, the alternative residence on Gaza Street, and the private home in Caesarea. The expenditures increased over the years: 10.9 million shekels in 2023, 27.8 million in 2024, 72.5 million in 2025, and 16.2 million shekels up to October 2026. The office clarified that these amounts cover all official and private residences of current and former prime ministers, with most of the increase in 2024 attributed to a heightened threat level, particularly following a drone attack on Netanyahu's villa in Caesarea. These measures highlight the commitment to enhancing security amid escalating threats.
