IEA Proposes Basra-Ceyhan Pipeline to Bypass the Strait of Hormuz

 IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol proposed the construction of a strategic oil pipeline linking Basra’s fields to the Turkish port of Ceyhan, aiming to secure Iraqi exports away from the Strait of Hormuz’s volatility. Birol emphasized that the project would bolster energy security for Europe and significantly reduce Iraq's reliance on waterways facing increasing security challenges in 2026, noting that the current time is ideal for a political agreement between Baghdad and Ankara to implement this vital corridor.
