Gold Retreats Globally as Oil Prices Advance
Global gold prices experienced a decline on Monday, primarily driven by an increase in crude oil prices stemming from escalating tensions in the Middle East, with Brent crude surpassing the ninety-dollar mark per barrel. This surge fueled inflation concerns, while officials from the U.S. central bank hinted at the potential necessity of raising interest rates to mitigate inflationary pressures. Spot gold dropped by 0.4% to $4000.55 per ounce by 00:58 GMT. This decrease follows gold hitting a two-week low last Friday, recording a 2.5% loss over the week. U.S. gold futures for August delivery also fell by 0.3% to $4005.9. Concurrently, Asian markets showed volatile performance on Monday, as the week commenced with major technology companies poised to announce their earnings, which will further test investor confidence in the artificial intelligence sector's momentum. Oil prices recorded a 3% jump, with Brent crude exceeding ninety dollars per barrel.
