French Police Seize Weapons and Detain 135 Amid Saturday Protests

On Saturday, French police detained 135 individuals and confiscated various weapons as part of heightened security measures to secure ongoing protests across several regions of the country. This action came amid strict orders to prevent the resurgence of street violence, according to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez. Nuñez indicated that the seized weapons included metal balls, bullets, fireworks, slingshots, steel balls, as well as homemade weapons and other items. The minister confirmed that no major incidents have been reported so far. These protests occur amid public anger over rising living costs, with concerns about a repeat of the violence and looting seen during demonstrations on October 17. Approximately 70,000 police and gendarmerie personnel have been deployed, marking an increase of about 20% compared to the previous week, to maintain control and prevent escalation.
