Executive Works Launch for Million Land Plot Project, Digital Platform for Applications Next Month

The Supreme Steering Committee for the Million Land Plot housing project, affiliated with the Prime Minister's office, announced the commencement of executive works in the governorates where land preparation has been completed, within the coming days. A statement issued by the Prime Minister's office indicated that this announcement comes in implementation of the Prime Minister's directives, aimed at executing the initiative to provide one million serviced residential land plots with infrastructure, based on Cabinet Resolution No. (332) issued on June 30, 2026. Thanks to exceptional efforts, specialized committees have managed to prepare 216,000 residential land plots in six governorates, allowing for immediate commencement of real estate development works and the implementation of necessary infrastructure. The statement affirmed that work is ongoing at a high pace to complete the preparation of the remaining lands within the project. The statement also noted the formation of specialized committees within the Prime Minister's office and the governorates, which undertook the task of establishing the legal, technical, and economic foundations for the initiative, and drawing a clear roadmap for its implementation, taking into account that previous housing initiatives did not achieve the desired success due to difficulties and challenges encountered. To ensure the sustainability of the project, innovative economic models were developed to finance the initiative, which resulted in the issuance of Cabinet decisions during its latest session. This was achieved through coordination and active cooperation with national businessmen and investors who expressed high readiness to bear joint responsibility with the government in implementing the initiative, either through direct contribution or by donating to execute infrastructure projects for these lands. The office clarified that executive works will be launched in the governorates where land preparation has been completed within the coming few days. Furthermore, a comprehensive digital platform is scheduled to be launched next October to receive applications from targeted citizens for this project. The statement reiterated the government's absolute commitment to implementing this initiative across all governorates of the country, aiming to eradicate the phenomenon of slum housing that does not befit the dignity of the Iraqi citizen. The government seeks to overcome all difficulties and obstacles within its comprehensive strategic vision to resolve the housing crisis, especially for poor and deprived segments, and in line with its governmental program. It emphasized that this pioneering initiative will form a strong foundation for other future initiatives aimed at serving citizens and providing them with a dignified life.
