Egyptian Parliament Discusses Mandating Sisi to Militarily Support Saudi Arabia

Egypt will not allow any compromise to Saudi Arabia security, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed, emphasizing Egypt readiness to take any necessary action to protect and defend the Kingdom in alignment with the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the first batch of the Egyptian Military Academy, El-Sisi explained that such military measures require constitutional approval from parliament, hoping lawmakers would convene in an emergency session to grant the required authorization if requested. In response, the Egyptian House of Representatives continues its parliamentary sessions on Monday and Tuesday to deliberate on granting President El-Sisi the authorization to provide military backing to Riyadh should the Kingdom request it. According to Member of Parliament Mustafa Bakry, these meetings follow an urgent session held on Sunday, strictly adhering to constitutional provisions that govern deploying Egyptian armed forces on combat missions outside national borders. At the defense and strategic level, Egypt National Defense Council announced its full solidarity and standing with Saudi Arabia, resolving to offer all essential and possible forms of support to protect its security, stability, territorial integrity, resources, and Islamic holy sites. This decision came during a comprehensive meeting chaired by President El-Sisi at Al-Ittihadiya Palace on Sunday. The Egyptian presidency stated in an official release that the council session was attended by the Parliament Speaker, Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense, Armed Forces Chief of Staff, along with the Ministers of Interior, Finance, and Foreign Affairs. The meeting also gathered the Head of General Intelligence, commanders of primary military branches, the Chief of Armed Forces Operations Authority, the Military Intelligence Director, and the Secretary-General of the National Defense Council. Meanwhile, the official presidential spokesman stated that discussions reviewed ongoing regional developments and grave situations, particularly the escalation of unacceptable assaults targeting the Kingdom.
