Details behind dismissing a Moroccan minister after two days in office
The Moroccan Royal Court announced on Sunday the dismissal of the Delegate Minister to the Minister of National Education and Vocational Training, Madiha Khair, just two days after her appointment, following the circulation of medical documents on social media regarding her psychological condition within a legal case related to a financial fraud case dating back to 2004. A statement issued by the Royal Court stated that King Mohammed VI approved a request from Prime Minister Fatima Al-Mansouri to relieve Madiha Khair of her position in accordance with the provisions of Article 47 of the Constitution. Government official spokesperson Samir Balfaqih said that the government's urgent handling of the circulation of judicial and medical data of a personal nature accompanying Khair's appointment falls within the framework of the government assuming its responsibility, and out of its keenness to provide all favorable conditions to proceed with completing the path of its constitutional formation. He added in a statement on Sunday that the government made the decision based on a political and institutional assessment shared with the components of the government majority, through which they renewed their joint will to make this governmental experience a success, focus public debate on the government program, the expectations of female and male citizens, and the keenness to serve the public interest. Khair belongs to the Istiqlal Party, which participates in the government coalition led by the Authenticity and Modernity Party, which topped the parliamentary elections on September 23. The coalition also includes the Party of Progress and Socialism and the Socialist Union of Popular Forces. Khair topped the elections in the Beni Mellal constituency in central the country after obtaining more than 21,000 votes. She was initially appointed as the head of her party's bloc in parliament before assuming governmental responsibility. The dismissal decision came in the context of controversy via social media accompanying the announcement of the new government formation, after the circulation of a medical document and old data regarding her previous health and psychological status, which sparked a wave of sharp debate about her eligibility for the position. Local media reports indicated that the documents circulated relate to a medical certificate issued by a specialist in psychiatric diseases, speaking of previous suicide attempts and a lack of psychological and emotional maturity and structural psychological fragility. The reports linked this document to an old legal file related to a fraud case.
