China Capitalizes on Global Energy Crisis: Record Surge in Clean Tech Exports

Chinese customs data revealed a sharp rise in clean technology exports in March, driven by surging global demand following fossil fuel supply disruptions caused by the Iran war. Solar cell exports grew by a staggering 80%, while electric vehicle (EV) and lithium battery shipments rose by 53% and 34%, respectively, reflecting a consumer shift toward sustainable alternatives to avoid soaring fuel prices.

Analysts suggest that China's dominance in supply chains has enabled its manufacturers to meet rising demand rapidly and competitively, with EV shipments reaching a record 349,000 units. Despite the recent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the energy security crisis has pushed many nations to adopt clean technologies as a long-term strategy to reduce dependence on volatile oil imports.
