Central Bank of Iraq denies rumors of returning huge financial funds over exchange rate

The Central Bank of Iraq denied on Monday reports regarding the return of 600 billion dinars under the pretext of not adopting a specific exchange rate for the dollar, affirming that electronic payment cards continue to operate at the approved official rate to meet the requirements of citizens abroad. The bank explained in an official statement that the allegations promoted by some news agencies based on anonymous sources regarding the return of massive financial funds due to non-compliance with the previous exchange rate and demanding banks to reinforce them according to the current rate are completely baseless. The bank emphasized its full commitment to carrying out all external transfer requests submitted by banks prior to October 7, 2026, at the former exchange rate without additional costs, pointing out that it has begun receiving and executing those requests. The bank concluded by urging accuracy and adherence to official directives regarding currency markets and salaries, warning of taking strict legal measures against entities that spread rumors and misleading news.
