Brent Crude Rises Amid Escalating Geopolitical Tensions
Brent crude futures saw a notable increase, climbing by $3.43 to reach $94.55 per barrel. This rise comes amidst significant geopolitical developments, most notably the Iranian negotiating team's decision to suspend message exchanges with the United States, which were being conducted through mediators. This suspension is a direct response to recent attacks on Lebanon. Sources clarified that the reason for halting these talks stems from the ongoing "crimes of the Zionist entity" in Lebanon, highlighting that Lebanon's situation was a precondition for a ceasefire, which has now been violated on all fronts. Iranian officials and negotiators emphasized the necessity of an immediate cessation of the "aggressive and brutal operations" carried out by the Israeli forces in Gaza and Lebanon, demanding a complete withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories. They stated that no negotiations would take place until these conditions, reflecting the stance of Iran and the "resistance," are met. Furthermore, the resistance front and Iran expressed their intention to fully close the Strait of Hormuz and activate other fronts, including the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, with the aim of punishing the Israeli entity and its supporters.
