Baghdad Announces Dispatch of 50 Million Liters of Kerosene to Kurdistan Region

A knowledgeable source from the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region revealed on Sunday, November 1, 2026, that the federal government plans to send 50 million liters of kerosene to the region this month. This amount only covers the needs of mountainous areas and falls short of the actual demand of the population. The source explained that the regional government had officially requested 268 million liters of kerosene from the federal cabinet to ensure a quota of 200 liters per family. The request is awaiting final approval to commence shipment. The kerosene is sold to the region at 250 dinars per liter and distributed to citizens at cost plus transportation and logistics fees. The source added that the regional government is currently considering purchasing kerosene from local markets and distributing it at subsidized prices to avoid any fuel shortage during winter and to secure adequate heating for households. The source criticized the federal government’s delay in setting a timetable for delivering the allocated quantities to the region, despite kerosene distribution having started last month in Baghdad, Babel, Mosul, and other provinces. The drop in temperatures in the mountainous areas has prompted residents to begin using heaters early.
